‘You Are Coming To Equity With Dirty Hands’, Shehu Sani Tells El-Rufai

Senator Shehu Sani has fiercely criticized the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, in response to the latter’s allegations against Governor Uba Sani. El-Rufai had accused the incumbent governor of being sycophantic toward President Bola Tinubu, claiming that he had unduly collected N150 billion in grants and interventions from the federal government.

In a sharp rebuttal, Senator Sani described El-Rufai as “coming to equity with dirty hands,” suggesting that the former governor had a questionable record when it came to transparency with public funds during his tenure.

Sani took to his verified Facebook account to remind the public of El-Rufai’s past actions, emphasizing the former governor’s alleged financial dealings while in office. He wrote: “The Ex-Governor collected millions of dollars in Paris Refund from President Buhari and never disclosed it to the people of the state. He collected billions of Excess Crude funds from Buhari and never disclosed it to the Kaduna public. He collected billions in Ecological funds from Buhari and never disclosed it to the people of Kaduna. He also collected billions in special grants from Buhari through the CBN and never disclosed it to the public and collected stamp duties in billions, yet never disclosed it to the people of the state.”

Sani further accused El-Rufai of collecting billions of Naira from a commercial bank and allegedly mortgaging the state, adding that there was no transparency regarding the spending of Kaduna’s $350 million World Bank loans. He challenged anyone in the state to swear by the Holy Book and confirm how every Naira was spent, referring to the ongoing calls for a probe by the Kaduna Assembly.

Addressing El-Rufai’s accusations about the present governor’s alleged mismanagement of funds, Sani suggested that if Uba Sani had failed to disclose the “mythical N150 billion,” it was a behavior he may have learned from his predecessor. “If the Present Governor is supporting Tinubu because of money, can we say that the former one was supporting and kneeling down for Buhari for the same reason?” Sani questioned.

He concluded by criticizing El-Rufai for accusing the current governor of betrayal, labeling the former governor as “a legend of betrayal” outsmarted by the “grand guru.” The exchange reflects the ongoing political tensions in Kaduna State as both leaders grapple for control of the narrative around governance and finances.
