Federal Gov’t Reaffirms Commitment To Strengthen Peace, Security Nationwide
The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to bolstering the country’s security framework to ensure peace and stability. This was highlighted by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, during a visit by the management of the Fellowship of Churches of Christ in Nigeria (TEKAN), led by its President, Rev. Joel Stephen Billi, in Abuja.
In a statement by the Director of Information in the SGF’s office, Segun Imohiosen, Akume emphasized the President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s focus on revitalizing the security architecture of the Armed Forces to promote peace and security across the nation.
“There is no way a government can function effectively, maximally, and efficiently without peace. That is why we put emphasis on peace,” Akume stated. He acknowledged the efforts of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, but emphasized that the current administration has taken it upon itself to enhance the military’s capabilities, ensuring the restoration of peace, particularly in regions affected by insurgency.
Akume also highlighted the recent improvements in security, citing the recapture of local governments previously under the control of Boko Haram insurgents, thanks to the efforts of the military.
Furthermore, Akume expressed appreciation for the church’s contributions to the nation, particularly in the areas of education, health, and promoting peaceful coexistence. He assured the church of the Federal Government’s commitment to continued partnership in advancing development and fostering peace.
Earlier, Rev. Billi expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for signing the Bill that established the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) into law, as well as for the distribution of palliative measures to help Nigerians cope with the effects of fuel subsidy removal. He commended the government’s ongoing efforts in improving the welfare of citizens and urged continued focus on security and further palliative efforts to reduce hardship.
