Police Arrest Student for Allegedly Hacking Colleague to Death in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a student from the Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, for allegedly hacking a fellow student to death.

The arrest was confirmed by the Command’s public relations officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, in a statement issued in Lafia, the state capital.

According to Nansel, the arrest followed a complaint from a resident, Madam Mercy Bassey, about a violent altercation between her tenant and his friend. Detectives were dispatched to the scene, where they discovered Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student, lying in a pool of blood.

The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Nasarawa town but was pronounced dead due to the severity of his injuries.

SP Nansel revealed that the suspect, John Gambo, an ND2 Banking and Finance student, was apprehended and confessed to attacking Ibrahim with an axe and a knife. The bloodstained weapons were recovered as evidence.

The PPRO stated, “On the 6th of February, 2025, at about 0200hrs, a report was lodged at Nasarawa Division by one Mercy Bassey, a female resident behind ECWA Peace College, Shagari Road, Nasarawa, regarding a violent altercation between two individuals. The incident occurred between one of her tenants and his friend at their lodge.”

“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, immediately sent a team of detectives who responded swiftly. They found Ibrahim Matthew, a part-time ND2 Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, lying in a pool of blood. He had suffered fatal injuries. Ibrahim was rushed to the General Hospital Nasarawa, where he was confirmed dead. His body was later deposited in the morgue for a post-mortem examination,” he explained.

SP Nansel added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the case to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and prosecution.
