Federal Gov’t Turns Forfeited Nok Varsity To Applied Sciences Varsity In Southern Kaduna

As Tinubu orders September takeoff

President Bola Tinubu has ordered the transformation of the forfeited Nok University in Kachia, Kaduna State, into the Federal University of Applied Sciences. This directive follows a Federal High Court ruling that finalized the forfeiture of the privately-owned Nok University to the Federal Government. The institution is now named the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, marking the fulfillment of a promise made to the people of Southern Kaduna.

Speaking at the formal handover of the university’s property and assets to the Federal Government, Vice President Kashim Shettima emphasized the government’s commitment to national inclusivity and development. He praised President Tinubu for spearheading the process, highlighting that the establishment of this institution reflects the administration’s vision for progress in the region.

“This is a great day for the country and for Kaduna State,” Shettima remarked, citing the collaborative efforts of notable figures like General Martin Luther Agwai, Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah, Justice Kumai Bayang Akaahs, and Senator Sunday Marshall Katung.

Shettima assured that operations at the university would commence soon, with the first set of students expected to be admitted by September, and that the institution would be included in the 2025 national budget.

Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu, calling the event a “great day” for both Kaduna State and the entire country. He also commended Vice President Shettima for his unwavering support for the establishment of the university and the peaceful coexistence fostered in the state.

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, who sponsored the bill for the university’s creation, echoed these sentiments, saying the institution would benefit millions by offering quality education, creating jobs, and stimulating local economic growth.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, described the university as part of the administration’s broader commitment to expanding human capital and capacity development. The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukayode, also highlighted the role of the EFCC in the final forfeiture process and the handover of the university’s assets.

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, praised the government for enhancing the capacity of Nigerians, particularly in Southern Kaduna, while Gen. Agwai (rtd) expressed his joy over the long-awaited development for the region.

In conclusion, the establishment of the Federal University of Applied Sciences in Kachia represents a significant milestone for Southern Kaduna, promising a brighter future for education, infrastructure, and regional peace.
