Troops Recover 2 Aircraft Engines, Kill 75 Terrorists — DHQ
The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has reported significant successes by troops engaged in internal security operations, recovering two aircraft engines from a long-unknown aircraft crash site in Borno State. Between January 3 and February 13, 2025, the military also killed 75 terrorists, arrested 138 suspects, and rescued 46 hostages.
Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Markus Kangye, stated that additional recoveries included one double barrel cannon gun and 16 missiles. The troops also arrested 36 suspected oil thieves and seized stolen products worth N646,189,690.
In terms of weaponry, troops recovered 104 assorted weapons, including 55 AK47 rifles, 20 locally fabricated guns, eight dane guns, and 18 pump action guns. Ammunition seized included 1,826 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 376 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, 366 rounds of 7.62 x 12.7mm ammo, and 45 assorted ammunitions.
In the Niger Delta, the troops uncovered and destroyed significant amounts of stolen oil and illegal refining infrastructure. Among the items recovered were 497,152 litres of stolen crude oil, 142,000 litres of illegally refined AGO (automotive gas oil), and 4,075 litres of PMS (premium motor spirit). The operation also saw the destruction of 164 crude oil cooking ovens, 37 dugout pits, 19 boats, and 16 storage tanks.
The military’s ongoing efforts have also led to the seizure of various other items, including tricycles, motorcycles, mobile phones, and vehicles.
