18 Suspected Kidnappers Arrested With Arms in Edo
Eighteen individuals suspected of kidnapping and armed robbery were arrested on Friday by the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) along the Benin-Auchi axis, with several charms and pellets recovered.
ESSC’s Corps Commandant, Friday Ibadin, confirmed the arrests on Saturday, stating that they occurred during a bush combing operation along the Benin-Auchi Road, near Equedion Camp, close to the Army checkpoint.
Ibadin revealed that 17 of the 18 suspects were non-indigenes of the state. He reassured Edo citizens of the government’s dedication to providing a secure environment, especially during the ongoing farming season.
“We will continue to work tirelessly to ensure Edo remains free from criminal elements,” Ibadin assured.
The suspects, upon noticing the security personnel, attempted to flee but were chased down to a camp, where all 18 were apprehended.
“Seventeen of the arrested suspects are from outside Edo State, while one is an indigene from the Agbede community,” Ibadin added.
During the operation, 38 locally made firearms and various charms were recovered.
“Our teams will keep combing the forests and engage with the locals to eliminate these criminals and ensure Edo State remains safe and secure for all,” Ibadin stated.
While handing over the suspects to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbede Police Station, Ibadin emphasized the need for closer collaboration between the ESSC and other security agencies to effectively tackle criminal activities in the state.
This arrest follows a directive from Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, who recently ordered security agencies to clear criminals from the state’s forests and ensure the safety of both farmers and residents.
