Gov Yusuf Warns Kano Teachers Against Forcing Students into Manual Labour
Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a stern warning to teachers in the state, prohibiting them from assigning students to manual labour, either within the school premises or outside. The governor emphasized that schools should focus on providing education and moral guidance, not forcing students into physical tasks.
The directive came after an unscheduled visit by Governor Yusuf to the School for Arabic Studies in Kano, where he discovered that students were being made to dig a toilet pipeline. The governor confronted the headmaster, who explained that the task had been given to students after school hours. Despite this, Governor Yusuf made it clear that such practices must end immediately.
To address the infrastructure issues at the school, the governor assured the school management that his administration would renovate all dilapidated structures, including the school mosque. He also directed that all future school projects be submitted to the Ministry of Education or his office for proper oversight and execution.
In addition, the governor inspected the ongoing reconstruction at the Kano Printing Press, which had been damaged during the #EndBadGovernance protests in 2024. Concerned about the quality of the work, he instructed the contractor to ensure that all construction adhered strictly to the approved standards.
