Early Morning Fire Destroys Properties in Oyo
An early morning fire on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, has destroyed properties, including eight shops, at Oke Asamu in the Oyo East Local Government Area of Oyo State.
Akinyemi Akinyinka, General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Agency, confirmed the incident, noting that the agency was able to prevent the fire from spreading to an additional 10 shops.
“At the early hours of Tuesday, the Oyo State Fire Services Control Room received a distress call reporting the fire at the location,” Akinyinka explained. “Firefighters, led by ACFS Oyedeji, were promptly deployed to the scene and arrived quickly.”
Upon arrival, the fire personnel found several shops engulfed in flames, but their swift intervention helped contain the fire to the affected areas, preventing it from spreading to nearby shops.
“Eight shops were affected in a row of multiple shops, but thanks to the quick action of our team, properties worth billions of naira were saved,” Akinyinka said.
Following an investigation into the cause of the fire, eyewitnesses revealed that the blaze was triggered by a high voltage of electricity when power was restored to the area.
