Trump Criticizes Zelenskyy and Biden Over Ukraine War, Claims US Gains Nothing
In a sharp critique, former U.S. President Donald Trump accused Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of manipulating the United States into spending billions on a war that he believes could not be won. Trump also lambasted former President Joe Biden’s handling of the conflict.
In a social media post on Wednesday, Trump stated that Zelenskyy, whom he described as a “modestly successful comedian,” convinced the U.S. to commit $350 billion to the war with Russia, a conflict Trump claimed “never had to start” and was unwinnable.
“Think of it, a modestly successful comedian, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, talked the United States of America into spending $350 billion dollars, to go into a war that couldn’t be won, that never had to start, but a war that he, without the U.S. and ‘TRUMP,’ will never be able to settle,” Trump wrote.
He criticized the financial imbalance, noting that the U.S. has spent $200 billion more than Europe, yet receives nothing in return. Trump questioned why Biden, whom he referred to as “Sleepy Joe,” did not push for European countries to contribute more to the war effort, arguing that the conflict was of greater importance to Europe than to the U.S., which has the advantage of an ocean as separation.
Trump further alleged that Zelenskyy had admitted that half of the funds sent by the U.S. were unaccounted for. He also accused Zelenskyy of refusing to hold elections and being unpopular in Ukraine, stating, “The only thing he was good at was playing Biden ‘like a fiddle.'”
Labeling Zelenskyy as a “dictator without elections,” Trump urged him to act quickly, warning that Ukraine could be left with nothing if his leadership continues.
Trump also took aim at Biden’s diplomatic efforts, asserting that his administration was better suited to negotiate peace between Ukraine and Russia. “In the meantime, we are successfully negotiating an end to the war with Russia, something all admit only ‘TRUMP’ and the Trump administration can do,” he claimed.
He concluded by expressing his support for Ukraine but criticized Zelenskyy’s leadership, saying, “Zelenskyy has done a terrible job, his country is shattered, and millions have unnecessarily died – and so it continues…”
