EDHIC Targets 500,000 Subscribers For Edo Health Insurance Scheme
The administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has set an ambitious goal to enrol over 500,000 new subscribers into the Edo State Health Insurance Scheme (EDHIS) by the end of this year.
This announcement was made by Mrs. Augusta Ikpea-Enaholo, the Director-General of EDHIS, during a medical outreach event held to mark 100 days in office of Governor Okpebholo.
The Edo State government aims to make significant progress toward achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) in the state. Mrs. Ikpea-Enaholo highlighted that EDHIS is working diligently to enroll over 500,000 new beneficiaries, providing them with protection against high out-of-pocket health expenditures and ensuring access to quality healthcare at state-owned healthcare facilities.
She further emphasized the importance of public awareness, noting that the success of EDHIS hinges on ensuring that every resident understands the scheme’s benefits. To this end, EDHIS has launched strategies to enlighten residents about the various services offered and the innovative initiatives implemented by the scheme.
Additionally, Mrs. Ikpea-Enaholo stressed that the vulnerable population in Edo State would not be left behind. The scheme has introduced special measures designed to address the healthcare needs of the state’s most vulnerable groups.
This initiative aligns with the state government’s vision to improve healthcare access and affordability, ensuring that Edo residents, regardless of their economic status, benefit from quality healthcare services.
