Katsina Community Decries Poor Roads, Water Scarcity
Residents of Durbi Takusheri in the Mani Local Government Area of Katsina State have voiced their concerns over the deteriorating conditions of their roads and the persistent water scarcity affecting the community.
A representative of the residents, Murtala Yusuf, speaking on behalf of the community leader, urged Governor Dikko Umar Radda to fulfill his promise of repairing the road that leads to their area. “We appreciate the governor’s commitment, but we plead with him to fix our road as he assured us,” Yusuf said.
In addition to the road issue, Yusuf highlighted the community’s struggles with water supply. While the area has boreholes, they are no longer functioning, and the existing water sources are insufficient as the population continues to grow. “As our community continues to expand, the existing water sources can no longer adequately serve our people,” he explained.
Yusuf also appealed for the timely provision of fertilizers to farmers ahead of the next farming season, which would help boost agricultural productivity. “Our area is peaceful, and we are fully engaged in farming. If fertilizers are supplied on time, it will greatly benefit us,” he noted.
In response, the chairman of the Mani Local Government Area, Inusa Muhammad Sani, assured journalists that the council is working to improve social amenities in rural communities. He mentioned that improvements are underway in healthcare facilities, roads, and culverts across the area, as well as the distribution of 13,000 bags of fertilizer, farming implements, and improved seedlings to farmers.
Residents are hopeful that the government will take swift action to address these challenges, improve infrastructure, and support agriculture, which is vital to the community’s livelihood.
