Police Arrest Husband Over Wife’s Death in Edo
The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of Kelvin Izekor in connection with the alleged murder of his wife, Success Izekor, aged 38, in Benin City on Saturday.
A viral video showed both police and residents at the scene, with the deceased being removed from her apartment after suffering machete wounds to her head. The couple, who were newly married, had neighbors and locals bewildered, unable to understand what could have transpired between the two that led to such a tragic outcome.
Moses Yamu, the spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, provided details of the incident in a statement. He explained that Kelvin Izekor was about to be lynched by an angry mob when police arrived, intervened, and arrested him. The statement reads:
“On 22/02/2025 at about 22:00hrs, information was received that one Kelvin Izekor of No. 50 Upper Mission Extension, Benin City had killed his wife, Success Izekor, aged 38, and was about to be lynched by an irate mob.
“Operatives of the Aduwawa Division swiftly responded to the report and met the lifeless body of the woman lying in a pool of her own blood with deep cuts on her head. It took serious efforts by the police operatives to pacify the mob, rescue, and take the suspect into custody for investigation. The victim was removed and rushed to the hospital, where she was confirmed dead.”
The Commissioner of Police for Edo State, Betty Otimenyin, condemned the recent rise in cases of violence between spouses. She assured the public that the police would carry out a thorough investigation into the death and that anyone found responsible for the crime would face legal consequences.
