Don’t Turn Osun Into ‘Wild-Wild West’, PDP Govs Warn APC
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum has issued a stern warning to the All Progressives Congress (APC), urging the party not to turn Osun State into a chaotic environment akin to the ‘Wild-Wild West’. The Forum emphasized the importance of adhering to the rule of law and called for the avoidance of self-help tactics in resolving disputes.
Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, made the statement on behalf of the PDP Governors Forum during an event in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State. The occasion was the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected local government chairmen in the state, where Governor Makinde, alongside PDP Governors Forum Chairman and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, showed support for Osun’s Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
The PDP Governors Forum urged those inciting unrest in Osun to reflect on the state’s history, warning that the current dispute should not lead to unnecessary crises, especially when the matter can be resolved through the judiciary.
Governor Makinde cautioned the APC to refrain from meddling in Osun’s affairs, advising anyone with grievances to seek judicial redress rather than resort to unlawful actions.
“We are focused on delivering democracy’s dividends to the people,” Governor Makinde stated. “If anyone has a judgment, there is a process for enforcing court decisions. Resorting to self-help is illegal,” he concluded.
This warning from the PDP Governors Forum recalls the term “Wild-Wild West”, which refers to the violent and chaotic political period in the former Western Region in 1966, marked by deaths and widespread unrest.
