Oyo APC Chides Makinde Over Comments On Osun Political Crisis
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has criticized Governor Seyi Makinde for his involvement in the ongoing political crisis in Osun State. In a statement on Monday, the party’s publicity secretary, Olawale Sadare, warned Governor Makinde to refrain from actions that might inflame tensions between the people of Osun.
The criticism came after Makinde issued a warning to the APC, cautioning them against destabilizing the democratic process during the swearing-in of new local government chairmen in Osun State. Makinde’s comments were made on Sunday during the event in Osogbo, the Osun State capital.
Sadare described Makinde’s participation in the event as a “show of shame,” accusing him of undermining President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen democracy at the grassroots level. The APC spokesperson also claimed that Makinde’s actions embarrassed the people of Oyo State, especially when he joined forces with anti-democratic elements to undermine constitutional democracy and the rule of law in Osogbo.
He further stated that Makinde’s presence and remarks at the ceremony were a deliberate attempt to criticize President Tinubu’s support for empowering local governments, suggesting that some governors have been exploiting resources meant for the third tier of government.
The Oyo APC condemned the local government election process in Osun, calling it a farce meant to undermine democracy and foster violence. The party urged Makinde to avoid further involvement in Osun’s affairs and to encourage peace and understanding within the state.
