Katsina Police Probe Varsity Student’s Death By Civilian JTF
The Katsina State Police Command has launched an investigation into a tragic shooting incident involving a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) in Dutsinma Local Government Area on February 23, 2025.
The incident led to the death of Sa’idu Abdulkadir, a 400-level student at the Federal University Dutsinma (FUDMA), and left a commercial motorcycle rider injured. The shooting occurred around 11:26 am when the motorcyclist, who was transporting Abdulkadir, was flagged down by a JTF team traveling in a Hilux vehicle.
Reports suggest that one of the JTF members opened fire, hitting both individuals on the motorcycle. Authorities responded promptly, rushing the victims to Dutsinma General Hospital. Abdulkadir, however, was later referred to the Orthopaedic Hospital in Katsina, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Sadiq Abubakar, the police spokesman for the state, expressed concern over the incident and assured the public that efforts were underway to identify and apprehend the responsible individuals. “The Command is committed to ensuring justice is served and is working closely with the university management and other stakeholders to bring the suspects to justice,” Abubakar stated.
In the aftermath of the tragic incident, FUDMA management temporarily closed the university, though normalcy has reportedly returned to the area. The police have promised to provide further updates as the investigation continues.
