IG Unveils Quick Response App for Ogun Schools

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has launched the VGS—VIGISCOPE application, designed to offer a swift emergency reporting and response system for schools across Nigeria.

The app was introduced at the conclusion of a two-day seminar held from November 26 to 27, 2024, which also saw the inauguration of the Safe School Protection Squad. The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, shared details of the new initiative in a statement on Thursday.

According to Odutola, the VIGISCOPE app functions as a real-time alert system, linked to a central base in Abuja. The system allows users—such as students or school principals—to send distress signals or “rescue me” messages in the event of an emergency. These alerts trigger a swift response from the police, ensuring timely assistance.

The app is internet-enabled, meaning it can be used in schools across Ogun State (and potentially nationwide), as long as there is internet access. The system is designed to improve technical intelligence and assist police in reaching areas that may otherwise be difficult to access, enhancing crime resolution and threat detection.

In case of danger, users can connect directly with the central base, reporting incidents or requesting immediate help. The system helps officers gather valuable intelligence and coordinate rapid, tactical responses. By facilitating the interception of information and identification of threats, it aims to improve security for schools and the wider community.

Odutola emphasized that the app allows users to communicate distress signals to tactical team commanders, ensuring rapid response times. With its data-driven features, the VIGISCOPE app aims to provide a safer environment for students and staff across Ogun State.

The initiative highlights the police’s commitment to leveraging technology to improve security in schools and protect educational institutions from emerging threats.
