Adebayo Hails Okonjo-Iweala’s Reelection, Seeks Improved Global Trade
Prince Adewole Adebayo, former presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has lauded the reappointment of Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the Director-General (DG) of the World Trade Organization (WTO), calling it well-deserved. Adebayo, in his congratulatory message, praised Okonjo-Iweala as one of the world’s finest public servants and expressed optimism that her second term would enhance global trade and contribute to social justice, international friendship, and sustainable development aimed at eradicating poverty and insecurity.
The General Council of the WTO announced Okonjo-Iweala’s reappointment on Friday, November 29, with her second four-year term set to begin on September 1, 2025. Adebayo also extended gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and other global stakeholders for their role in supporting Okonjo-Iweala’s reelection.
Adebayo shared his thoughts on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, writing: “I am most delighted to congratulate our dear sister and one of the world’s finest public servants @NOIweala on her reappointment for a second term as the Director-General of the World Trade Organization. I thank @officialABAT and other global stakeholders of the @wto for their support for a most deserving candidate.”
He further expressed his hope that the reappointment would help make global trade a tool for achieving greater social equity, friendship between nations, and development that reduces poverty and insecurity in a world abundant with capital, technology, and enterprise.
