Tinubu’s Tax Reform Bills ‘Divide’ Govs At NGF Meeting

The recent Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday night ended without the usual communiqué, raising questions about the outcomes and deliberations of the session. The meeting, which began at 10pm and lasted about an hour, was attended by 15 governors, including Alex Otti of Abia State, Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State, and others from Plateau and Zamfara States. Most of the attendees were members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In an unusual turn of events, the governors chose not to brief the media after the meeting. Instead, they left one by one without providing details about the discussions. While there was no official statement issued, credible sources revealed that the main topic of contention during the meeting was President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reform bills, which are currently under consideration in the National Assembly.

It is believed that the governors were divided on the issue, with no consensus reached on the reforms. The tax reform bills have sparked significant debate among various stakeholders, and the disagreement among the governors highlights the ongoing tensions surrounding the proposed changes.
