Police Hunt for Lady Who Swapped ATM Card of 58-Year-Old Woman to Steal N2 Million in Anambra
Operatives from the Anambra State Police Command have launched a manhunt for a woman who allegedly swapped the ATM card of a 58-year-old physically challenged woman and used it to steal N2 million.
The fraud was uncovered after a CCTV video surfaced, showing the suspect with the victim at an ATM gallery in Nnewi, the commercial hub of Anambra State. According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the woman pretended to assist the victim with the ATM transaction, but instead swapped her card.
The fraudulent activity was discovered shortly after the suspect left the scene when the victim began receiving debit alerts totaling N2 million.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, immediately directed the police to contact the victim for further details and to gather information to track down the suspect.
SP Ikenga also revealed that CP Itam had ordered the deployment of all available intelligence-gathering resources to ensure the suspect’s arrest and that she faces the full force of the law.
The police are urging residents of Nnewi and surrounding areas to assist in identifying the woman in the CCTV footage to aid in her arrest.
