South-East PDP Reinstates Support for Okoye as National Secretary
The South-East zonal leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed its support for Udeh Okoye as the National Secretary of the party. This came after a meeting held at the Government House, Enugu, on Friday, where the zonal executive committee deliberated on several key matters affecting the party in the region.
A resolution passed at the meeting also approved the sharing of national and zonal offices allocated to the South-East zone. The communique, which was read by Chief Ali Odefa at the end of the meeting, emphasized the unity of the PDP in the South-East, asserting that the party in the region remained a strong and united force capable of resolving any internal issues. It also warned external parties against interfering in the region’s affairs.
The meeting was attended by several prominent party leaders, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, who is the leader of the party in the zone; former President of the Senate, Senator Adolphus Wabara; Senator Osita Ngwu, the Senate Minority Whip; Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye, the National Secretary of the party; former governors, former ministers, and other stakeholders from the South-East.
In its communique, the South-East Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) of the PDP expressed its determination to restore the fortunes of the party in the South-East and across Nigeria. The ZEC discussed the challenges the party has faced, particularly the internal crisis at the national level, as well as attempts to interfere in the South-East’s jurisdiction.
The committee particularly addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding the Office of the National Secretary of the PDP, which is zoned to the South-East. The ZEC reiterated its full support for Hon. Udeh Okoye, following a Court of Appeal ruling that upheld his position as the National Secretary. The party reaffirmed its stance, stating that Okoye remains the legitimate holder of the office, and expressed confidence in the judiciary to continue ensuring justice in the matter.
The communique further emphasized the commitment of the South-East PDP to internal unity and peace, asserting that the region’s leadership would handle any issues that may arise without external interference.
The ZEC meeting also adopted the zoning arrangement for national and zonal offices within the party, reaffirming its position on the importance of inclusive governance and the strengthening of party structures at all levels.
In summary, the South-East PDP resolved to stay united, support the rule of law, and maintain its position on the legitimacy of Hon. S.K.E Udeh Okoye as the National Secretary of the party.
