Aiyedatiwa Swears In New LG Chairmen in Ondo
Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, inaugurated the newly elected chairmen for the 18 local government areas in the state on Monday, urging them to begin their duties with immediate action.
At the ceremony, held at the International Centre For Culture and Events (The Dome) in Akure, Aiyedatiwa emphasized the importance of listening to the people, understanding their challenges, and addressing their needs. He reminded the new chairmen that the expectations of the people are high, and they must not disappoint.
The governor also called for collaboration and synergy between the local government chairmen, the legislative councils, and career public servants to ensure effective governance. He reminded them of the need to remain accountable to the people they serve.
Aiyedatiwa highlighted that the 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state are now a permanent part of the state’s administrative structure, created by law to bring government closer to the people. He emphasized the collective responsibility to ensure the success and growth of the LCDAs, stating that mutual trust and inclusivity are essential for their survival.
He reminded the new council chairmen of the weight of their responsibilities, saying, “To whom much is given, much is expected.” Aiyedatiwa urged them to innovate and prioritize the welfare and prosperity of the people, focusing on the development of their local government areas.
Acknowledging the recent local government election results as a clear endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by the people, Aiyedatiwa stated that the chairmen must now work to translate this trust into tangible progress, improving the lives of citizens at the grassroots level.
The governor stressed that the oath of office taken by the chairmen was not a mere formality but a serious commitment to serve with integrity, honesty, and transparency. He reminded them that their roles should not be for personal gain but for selfless service to the people who entrusted them with leadership.
Aiyedatiwa further urged the new chairmen to make a real difference in the lives of the people by addressing infrastructure needs, providing basic amenities, and improving public services. He called on them to embrace the ‘People First’ governance approach, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and the well-being of the citizens.
