Court Summons VeryDarkMan For Allegedly Defaming Mercy Chinwo
A Chief Magistrate’s Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has summoned controversial social media critic Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), for allegedly defaming gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
The court issued the summons on March 5, 2025, ordering VDM to appear in person on March 13, 2025, to answer allegations brought against him by Chinwo.
The summons follows accusations that VDM made damaging statements about the singer on his social media platforms. The accusations centered around claims that Chinwo had misappropriated $345,000, allegedly tied to her former record label boss, Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, also known as Eezee Tee.
In the criminal complaint filed by Chinwo’s legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi from Law Corridor, the singer stated that VDM’s statements violated Sections 391 of the Penal Code and Section 24(1)(B) of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015.
In addition to the criminal charges, Chinwo has filed a defamation lawsuit at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, seeking N1.1 billion in damages from VDM for the alleged harm caused by the defamatory statements.
The case continues to draw attention due to the serious nature of the accusations and the potential legal consequences for VDM.
