BREAKING: Former Presidential Spokesperson Doyin Okupe Dies at 72

Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesman and former Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign, has passed away. The news of his death was confirmed on Friday morning.

Okupe, a physician turned politician, served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to former President Olusegun Obasanjo and later as Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to President Goodluck Jonathan.

Born on March 22, 1952, Okupe was a co-founder of Royal Cross Medical Centre and had a significant political career. He was once the National Publicity Secretary of the now-defunct National Republican Convention (NRC) during the aborted Third Republic.

Okupe’s life was marked by his activism, including a period of detention under the military regime of General Sani Abacha. He was also disqualified from participating in the United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) primaries.

Later in his career, Okupe became a vocal supporter of President Bola Tinubu after parting ways with the Labour Party and its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

A native of the prominent Agbonmagbe family from Iperu-Remo in Ogun State, Okupe leaves behind a lasting legacy in both the political and medical fields.
