Gov Yusuf Drops Kano SSG, 5 Commissioners In Major Cabinet Reshuffle
Kano State Governor, Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, has made significant changes to his cabinet, relieving the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, and five commissioners of their appointments. The reshuffle, announced on Thursday, also saw the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alh. Shehu Wada Sagagi, lose his position, with his office being scrapped entirely.
The Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, revealed the details in a statement, naming the affected commissioners as Ibrahim Jibril Fagge (Finance), Ladidi Ibrahim Garko (Culture and Tourism), Baba Halilu Dantiye (Information and Internal Affairs), Shehu Aliyu Yammedi (Special Duties), and Abbas Sani Abbas (Rural and Community Development). The reshuffle is part of a broader effort to enhance administrative performance and retool the political structure.
Dr. Bichi’s removal was attributed to health reasons. In addition to the dismissals, several cabinet members were reassigned. The Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdulssalam, was moved from the Ministry of Local Government to the Ministry of Higher Education. Hon. Mohammad Tajo Usman was reassigned from the Ministry of Science and Technology to Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, while Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar Mata moved from Higher Education to Science, Technology, and Innovation.
Other reshuffles included Hon. Amina Abdullahi, who is now the Commissioner for the Ministry of Women, Children, and Disabled Affairs, and Hon. Nasiru Sule Garo, who was reassigned from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to the Ministry of Special Duties.
Some commissioners retained their positions, including Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi (Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice), Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud (Agriculture), Hon. Musa Suleiman Shannon (Budget and Planning), Dr. Abubakar Labaran (Health), Hon. Abduljabbar Mohammed Umar (Land and Physical Planning), and Engr. Marwan Ahmad (Works and Housing).
Governor Yusuf directed the Chief of Staff and the dismissed commissioners to report to his office for possible reassignment.
