JUST-IN: 2 Dead, 2 Injured In Abuja School Explosion, Police Confirm
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed that two individuals have died and two others have been injured in a suspected bomb explosion at the Tsangaya Sani Uthman Islamiya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Bwari Area Council, FCT.
According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the explosion occurred around 11:00 AM on Monday, January 6, 2025. Upon receiving a distress call, the police dispatched a team of operatives, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, to the scene. The area was immediately cordoned off to protect residents and allow for an investigation.
Preliminary findings suggest that three men from Katsina visited the school, where they are believed to have brought an improvised explosive device (IED). Tragically, two of the men died while attempting to tamper with the IED on the school’s veranda. The third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment under police supervision.
The FCT Bomb Squad confirmed the explosion was caused by an IED, with remnants of the device recovered from the scene. The owner of the school, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or items resembling IEDs to the police. Emergency contact numbers have been provided for citizens to use.
