DSS Intercepts Arms Cache In Zamfara
Governor Dauda Lawal has lauded the Department of State Services (DSS) for successfully intercepting a significant arms cache that was en route to Zamfara State.
On Tuesday, the DSS Director in Zamfara State presented the seized weapons and ammunition to the governor at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital. The intercepted items included a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), two machine guns, nine AK-47 rifles, two pistols, 19 magazines, and over a thousand rounds of live ammunition.
The DSS disclosed that the suspected gunrunner was tracked from Niger Republic and apprehended on the Zurmi/Kauran Namoda highway in Zamfara.
While inspecting the arms, Governor Lawal commended the collaborative efforts between the state’s government, the military, the police, and the DSS in combating banditry. He expressed gratitude for the continuous support provided to the security forces, emphasizing that this success was made possible due to the cooperation between the state government and security agencies.
“The support we have been giving to the troops has helped in addressing banditry in the state,” Governor Lawal remarked. “I urge the people of Zamfara to continue supporting the security forces in their ongoing efforts.”
The governor also pointed out that many of the criminals involved in the banditry are indigenes of Zamfara, not foreigners. He mentioned that while the arrested gunrunner was the focus of this public presentation, several similar arrests have taken place over the past few weeks, signaling a decline in banditry within the state.
“Banditry is declining in Zamfara, and we are seeing positive results,” Lawal concluded. He encouraged residents to maintain their support for the ongoing security efforts.
